<hi style=afpcap>Five C-140 Jetstars were obtained by the Military Air Transport Service for their Airways and Air Communications Service (AACS) to calibrate airways communications and navigational aids. The aicraft were painted in a smart orange scheme which was applied over the basic natural metal finish. AACS was subsequently renamed the Air Force Communications Service and late still became an independent Command. The Jetstars were stationed in the USA at Scott AFB, Illinois for most of their operational career, with regular visits to US installations overseas. The type was eventually replaced by the British Aerospace 125-800 as the C-29, although these were later transfered to the FAA when the USAF abandoned the role. </hi>
